BARRY  L. JORDAN   GOLF COURSE ARCHITECT

Since establishing his Golf Course Architecture firm in 1996, Barry has been commissioned for work on more than 50 projects, including daily fee, municipal, resort and private courses.

Born and raised in Groton, Connecticut, Barry began his studies in Turfgrass Science and Landscape Development at the State University of New York at Cobleskill. In 1983 he began his career on the Maintenance Staff at the renowned Donald Ross designed Shennecossett Golf Course in Connecticut. He went on to earn a Bachelor Degree in Landscape Architecture at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY - ESF) at Syracuse, and worked several years for Environmental Design & Research, PC. a Syracuse based Landscape Architecture firm. He then obtained his license in Landscape Architecture and completed graduate studies related to the field of Golf Course Architecture. As part of his formal training, Barry traveled to Scotland and Ireland to study and photograph the historical links courses. His evaluation of these courses helped produce his environmental design philosophy. This philosophy has enabled him to produce both strategic and strikingly beautiful golf compositions that can be built and maintained at an affordable budget. Barry has also taught design as a Visiting Instructor in the Department of Landscape Architecture at SUNY - ESF and continues to be a frequent lecturer and design critic for the University.

Today, Barry practices Golf Course Architecture out of his Manlius, New York studio. Some of his current projects include: The Lazy Swan Golf & Country Club, a new golf course set to open in the spring of 2008 in Saugerties, New York; The Links at Barrow’s View, a new course overlooking Skaneateles Lake in Borodino, New York; and in the greater Rochester area, Champion Hill Country Club, a new golf course and housing development in Victor, New York.

Current Master Planning projects include an ongoing historic restoration of the Donald Ross classic, Teugega Country Club in Rome, New York; a Comprehensive Master Plan for the Windsor Downs Golf Club on Cat Cay, in the Bahamas; and an ecological re-design of Newman Municipal Golf Course in Ithaca, New York.
